slides-generator — Claude Code skill: PDF slides from markdown
Turns a markdown file into a PDF deck: title slide, sections, tables, code and Mermaid diagrams. Handy when you need a talk or technical doc without laying it out by hand.
npx skills add hummingbot/skills --skill slides-generator -a claude-codeWhat slides-generator does
The skill reads markdown and builds a PDF deck in Hummingbot branding. A top-level heading becomes the title slide, each ## N. Title becomes its own slide, and everything under it lands on that slide: lists, bold and italic, code blocks, tables. Before generating, the agent prints the slide outline and waits for your confirmation, so nothing runs twice by accident.
Diagrams start as plain language under mermaid: — the agent translates the description into Mermaid code and drops it into the slide. When a slide has both bullets and a diagram, they render in two columns. Diagram rendering needs the Mermaid CLI: npm install -g @mermaid-js/mermaid-cli. Without it the chart stays blank while the text still builds, so install the package up front.
Generation runs through generate_slides.sh, fetched from GitHub, which checks for Python 3 and the fpdf2 package. To revise a finished deck, pass --edit: the agent reads the source markdown, applies your changes and rebuilds only the slides you touched. The format is strict — markdown that does not follow the ## N. Title pattern produces an empty PDF.
What it helps with
- build a PDF deck from a markdown file
- add an architecture diagram to a slide from a text description
- place bullets and a diagram side by side on one slide
- edit individual slides in a finished deck and rebuild it
- turn technical docs into slides with code blocks
Example prompts for the agent
- Build PDF slides from
report.md, output to~/report.pdf - Add a diagram slide: mermaid: data flow from API to Gateway
- Rebuild the deck with
--edit, change only slide three
