godot-3d-materials — Claude Code skill for Godot materials
This skill guides Godot PBR material setup and points to scripts for textures, transparency, and visual effects. Use it while building 3D surfaces or tuning material workflows.
npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-3d-materials -a claude-codeWhat godot-3d-materials does
The skill covers StandardMaterial3D settings for albedo, metallic and roughness values, normal maps, ORM textures, and transparency. Its scripts include an ORM packer for AO, Roughness, and Metallic, a transparency sorting fix, and tools for batching materials.
For meshes without UVs, it includes triplanar projection shaders. Other files handle foliage wind, subsurface scattering, and decals. The task determines which files to load; ordinary PBR work does not call for the wind or triplanar shaders. Runtime effects need special care: material_fx.gd provides helpers to make a separate material instance before changing it, rather than modifying a shared .tres resource.
What it helps with
- pack AO, Roughness, and Metallic into an ORM texture
- set up transparency without full alpha blending
- build a triplanar material for a mesh with no UVs
- animate foliage with vertex-driven wind
- change a material at runtime without editing a shared resource
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up a Godot PBR material for a metal surface and choose an ORM texture workflow.
- Build a triplanar material for a rock mesh with no UV mapping.
- Add a runtime dissolve effect without changing the shared
.tresmaterial.

Questions about godot-3d-materials
How do I install godot-3d-materials in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-3d-materials -a claude-code, then use ~/.claude/skills/godot-3d-materials/SKILL.md.
What does godot-3d-materials do?
It provides guidance and files for Godot PBR materials, including ORM textures, transparency, triplanar projection, and material effects.
What setting makes a normal map work in Godot?
Enable normal_enabled = true on the material. Otherwise, the normal map has no effect.
