godot-rpg-stats — Claude Code skill: RPG stats in Godot
A skill that steers your coding agent through building an RPG stat system in Godot: attributes, modifiers, leveling and damage formulas.
npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-rpg-stats -a claude-codeWhat godot-rpg-stats does
The skill lays out character stats as Godot Resources. Base attributes like strength and dexterity live in a designer-authored template, and a runtime component duplicates that template and applies modifiers on top. Derived stats recalculate from signals when a base value changes, not every frame.
It ships a GDScript file per layer: base stat template, XP curve, modifier stacking, buff and debuff data, a damage formula handler, label syncing for the UI, and saving progression to .tres. Buffs are authored as StatusEffectData resources typed ADDITIVE, MULTIPLICATIVE or OVERRIDE. Two rules stand out: keep percentages in float, because integers truncate them, and give every modifier a unique ID, otherwise you cannot remove one specific effect later.
Damage math sits in a shared RefCounted helper used by both player and NPC. Worth checking your own project if damage formulas are currently spread across the character script. The skill targets Godot and GDScript, and your agent needs file access to read the skill's scripts.
What it helps with
- define base character attributes as a Resource
- stack additive and multiplicative modifiers in one place
- recalculate derived stats when equipment changes
- move damage formulas into a shared module for player and NPC
- save character progression to
.treswithout temporary buffs
Example prompts for the agent
- Build a character stat system on Resources using the godot-rpg-stats skill
- Add a speed buff with StatusEffectData typed MULTIPLICATIVE and recalculate derived stats
- Move damage calculation into damage_formula_handler.gd and wire it to both player and NPC

Questions about godot-rpg-stats
How do I install godot-rpg-stats in Claude?
Run npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-rpg-stats -a claude-code. The skill file then lands at ~/.claude/skills/godot-rpg-stats/SKILL.md.
What does godot-rpg-stats do?
It gives your agent a blueprint for Godot character stats: base attributes, modifier stacking, leveling, derived stats and damage formulas, each layer in its own script.
Where do stat systems usually break?
The skill calls out integers for percentages, since they truncate — use float. And without a unique ID per modifier you cannot strip a single effect.
