godot-genre-roguelike — Claude Code skill: what it does & setup
Architectural guidelines and modular scripts for building roguelikes in Godot. Sets up procedural generation, seeded RNG, and meta-progression.
npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-genre-roguelike -a claude-codeWhat godot-genre-roguelike does
The skill provides architectural rules and modular GDScript components tailored for Godot. It stops the agent from relying on unseeded global RNG. Heavy dungeon algorithms run outside the main thread via WorkerThreadPool, keeping the viewport responsive.
Included blueprints cover Drunkard's Walk carving in dungeon_generator_walker.gd, Jump Point Search with AStarGrid2D, and GPU shader masks for fog of war. Run logic and meta unlocks remain separated. While run_manager.gd supervises the active dungeon, meta_progression_manager.gd stores persistent upgrades in JSON under user://.
Saving active run states directly to .tscn files is prohibited because it bloats data. You must serialize procedural grid entities into JSON or binary files instead.
What it helps with
- offload procedural level generation to
WorkerThreadPool - isolate per-run temporary state from persistent meta-progression
- set up 2D grid pathfinding using
AStarGrid2Dand Jump Point Search - prevent save scumming by wiping mid-run saves immediately upon loading
Example prompts for the agent
- Implement a Drunkard's Walk procedural generator using WorkerThreadPool
- Set up meta-progression saving that separates run state from persistent unlocks
- Configure AStarGrid2D pathfinding with Chebyshev heuristic for an 8-way grid

Questions about godot-genre-roguelike
How to install godot-genre-roguelike in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-genre-roguelike -a claude-code in your project terminal.
What does the godot-genre-roguelike skill do?
