fal-gamedev — Claude Code skill for 2D pixel art assets
The skill walks an agent through four recipes: character, sprite sheets, background removal, background layers. Useful when a 2D game needs art and you would rather not draw it by hand.
npx skills add fal-ai-community/skills --skill fal-gamedev -a claude-codeWhat fal-gamedev does
Four recipes, each invokable on its own. A character comes from a text description or an existing image, then sprite sheets for walk, jump, attack and idle are generated from that character. Background removal runs through Bria, and backgrounds come as either three parallax layers or a top-down isometric map for an RPG.
The stack is a set of genmedia run and genmedia status calls against fal-ai/nano-banana-pro, fal-ai/nano-banana-pro/edit, openai/gpt-image-2, openai/gpt-image-2/edit and fal-ai/bria/background/remove. The skill insists each command goes out as its own Bash call — no variables, no pipes — and that parallel jobs fire with --async and get polled one after another. Output lands in ./game-assets/<character-slug>/, split into sprites/ and backgrounds/.
You need the genmedia CLI, initialized once with genmedia init. Bria has no queue endpoint, so it runs synchronously instead of async. When a status poll returns 400 saying the job is still running, the skill says to wait 10 seconds and repeat the same call rather than firing the generation again.
What it helps with
- generate a pixel art character from a text prompt
- build a walk sprite sheet from a character image
- strip backgrounds off sprites into transparent PNGs
- produce a three-layer parallax background for a side-scroller
- lay out an isometric map for an RPG
Example prompts for the agent
- Generate a pixel art character: a pirate carrot, front view, standing idle
- Make a walk sprite sheet from
game-assets/pirate-carrot/character.png - Remove the background from every sprite in
sprites/
