What context7 does

The skill searches for a library in Context7, then selects an ID using its trust score, available snippets, and version information. It requests material for a focused topic and uses the result to explain an API or prepare a code example.

Ask it to check how a library works, show a usage example, or verify version-specific details. API requests require CONTEXT7_API_KEY; without that credential, the documented curl calls cannot authenticate. For a combined example using multiple libraries, the skill resolves and retrieves documentation for each one.

What it helps with

  • check the current way to call a library API
  • find an example for a specific function
  • verify documentation for a particular library version
  • build an example that combines multiple libraries

Example prompts for the agent

  • Check the current React useEffect cleanup pattern through Context7 and show an example.
  • Find how to configure authentication middleware in the Next.js App Router using Context7.
  • Compare the Context7 docs for TailwindCSS and shadcn/ui, then draft a button example.
