What prompt-improver does

prompt-improver examines a request for verifiability, scope, context, constraints, expected output and response format. It flags vague wording, missing tests or check commands, excessive background and unclear deliverables. The result includes a revised prompt, concrete improvement points and questions for details the request does not provide.

The skill also classifies the task by type and complexity. For an ambiguous or multi-file task, the revised wording asks the agent to explore the codebase and plan before implementation. Claude Code and Codex get extra guidance from references/claude.md and references/codex.md. This matters when a task has uncertain impact: the prompt should require exploration before changes. The skill is listed for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode.

What it helps with

  • review a prompt for missing requirements
  • turn vague requests into testable tasks
  • define a clear implementation scope
  • add files and commands to an agent request
  • prepare questions about missing context

Example prompts for the agent

  • Improve this prompt for fixing a bug in src/auth/ and add ways to verify the change.
  • Review my refactoring request and rewrite it with an exploration phase first.
  • Rewrite this request for updating README.md so the result has clear checks.
