project-bootstrap — Claude Code skill: repository setup
This skill configures repository structure, checks, CI, and agent infrastructure. Use it for a new project or a repository prepared for distribution.
npx skills add jssblck/agents --skill project-bootstrap -a claude-codeWhat project-bootstrap does
The skill chooses a setup scope: a minimal runnable project, repository tooling, distribution files, or Jess’s full template. It can add source layout, a dependency manifest, formatter, linter, type and build checks, CI, release files, and contributor guidance when the request calls for them.
Defaults vary by language. TypeScript uses oxfmt, oxlint, and tsc --noEmit; Python uses ruff with mypy or pyright; Rust uses rustfmt, clippy, and Cargo checks. New TypeScript applications can also receive the described Effect, schema, xstate, Vitest, and Postgres stack. Existing tooling stays in place unless migration is part of the task.
When requested, the skill adds agent rules, AI review gates, or hooks, then keeps CI and local checks on one shared recipe. A new project also needs a choice between AGPL-3.0-or-later and Apache-2.0 for its license.
What it helps with
- create a new repository layout
- choose language-specific format and lint checks
- share one verification recipe between CI and local work
- add agent rules and an AI review gate
- prepare files for public distribution
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up a new TypeScript repository with type checks, linting, and CI.
- Create a minimal runnable Python project with its dependency manifest and verification commands.
- Apply Jess’s full project template, including agent rules and release files.

Questions about project-bootstrap
How do I install project-bootstrap in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add jssblck/agents --skill project-bootstrap -a claude-code, then check ~/.claude/skills/project-bootstrap/SKILL.md.
What does project-bootstrap do?
It selects the requested repository scope and configures its layout, checks, CI, agent infrastructure, or distribution files.
Does the skill apply the full template to a prototype?
No. A prototype request alone does not call for the full template. That scope is used when the user explicitly asks for it or for its gates.
