cmux-release — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Automates the cmux release pipeline by extracting changelog lines from pull requests, bumping versions, and running safety checks.
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux --skill cmux-release -a claude-codeWhat cmux-release does
This skill guides the release workflow inside the cmux repository. It inspects pull requests merged since the previous stable release tag via GraphQL, formats CHANGELOG.md with contributor credits, and cleans up unreleased sections. The workflow defaults to bumping a minor version when executing /release.
Version bumps and safety checks depend on local shell scripts. The assistant invokes ./scripts/bump-version.sh to update project version constants and auto-increment the build number required by Sparkle updates. Before git tags get pushed, ./scripts/release-pretag-guard.sh validates the repository state. If that guard check fails, you must run the bump script again and commit the new build number before retrying.
The skill targets macOS application releases specifically, expecting signing secrets like APPLE_CERTIFICATE_BASE64 and App Store Connect API keys in CI. It will fail if those scripts are absent.
What it helps with
- extract release notes from merged pull requests
- bump marketing version and build numbers via bash scripts
- verify repository consistency with pretag guard before tagging
- monitor the release run ID without polling GitHub API
Example prompts for the agent
- Run the /release command to prepare a minor release and update CHANGELOG.md
- Check if release-pretag-guard passes and push the new version tag
- Bump the patch version using bump-version.sh and commit the build number
