cloud-architect · davila7 — Claude Code skill: cloud design and FinOps
A Claude skill for designing infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP, with Terraform, CDK, cost work and security controls.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill development/cloud-architectWhat cloud-architect does
This skill turns Claude into a cloud architect. It walks through your requirements for scale, cost and compliance, picks services that fit the workload, and sketches a design that handles failure. Then it writes the infrastructure code: Terraform or OpenTofu modules, CloudFormation, Bicep, CDK, Pulumi. Cost estimates come with suggestions on where to trim them.
What sits inside is a body of knowledge, not runnable scripts. Service catalogs for AWS, Azure and GCP, GitOps with ArgoCD and Flux, policy as code through OPA, observability on Prometheus and OpenTelemetry, disaster recovery with RPO/RTO planning. When you want worked examples, the skill opens resources/implementation-playbook.md.
One thing to keep in mind: the skill never touches your cloud account. It advises and writes configs, you apply them. Treat the cost figures as a rough read unless it can see your billing. The name also collides with a subagent of the same name in other collections, so check which one your setup actually picked up.
Below are a few ways to talk to it.
What it helps with
- design cross-cloud networking between AWS and GCP
- move hand-built infrastructure into Terraform modules
- find where a cloud bill is leaking money
- choose between Lambda, EKS and plain VMs for a workload
- map SOC2 or HIPAA requirements onto concrete controls
Example prompts for the agent
- Design a fault-tolerant AWS setup for our API and estimate the monthly cost
- Convert this infrastructure into Terraform modules split by workspace
- Where are we overspending in GCP, and what could move to committed use discounts

Questions about cloud-architect
How do I install cloud-architect in Claude?
Use the templates collection: npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill development/cloud-architect. Or run npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill cloud-architect -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/cloud-architect/SKILL.md.
What does cloud-architect do?
It helps you design cloud infrastructure: it clarifies requirements, recommends AWS, Azure or GCP services, writes IaC configs and adds cost estimates.
Does the skill apply changes to my cloud account?
No. It produces recommendations and infrastructure code; running terraform apply or deploying a stack is still on you.
