clean-up-dropbox-content — Codex skill: delete Dropbox files safely
A Codex skill that hunts down stale, duplicate and temporary files in Dropbox and deletes them only after you confirm. Handy when a folder has grown messy.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill clean-up-dropbox-content -a codexWhat clean-up-dropbox-content does
The skill runs deletion in Dropbox as a review process, not a sweep. It pins down scope first, then gathers candidates with search or list_folder and checks each one through get_file_metadata. For anything shared, list_shared_links shows whether other people would be affected.
You get a review list before anything is removed: path, type, modified time, sharing status and the reason an item looks safe. Deletion waits for your explicit confirmation, and delete runs only on the exact items you approved. Want a copy kept first? The skill confirms the destination, calls copy, then polls check_job_status until the job finishes.
There is no undo. The Dropbox MCP tools expose neither revision listing nor restore, so a copy made beforehand is the only fallback. Long-running copy and delete jobs are tracked through check_job_status, and the final report covers copied, deleted, skipped, pending and failed items, with reasons for failures.
What it helps with
- clear duplicate PDFs out of one Dropbox folder
- remove obsolete drafts without touching files others rely on
- delete temporary exports once work is done
- keep a copy of a file before removing it and wait for the copy to finish
- get a candidate list with a stated reason per item
Example prompts for the agent
- Delete these Dropbox files:
exports/report-v2.pdfandexports/report-v3.pdf. - Clean up duplicate PDFs in
Projects/2024— show me the list first, delete after I confirm. - Remove the temporary exports from Dropbox, but copy them to
