inspect-dropbox-file — Codex skill: inspect Dropbox files
This skill reports metadata for a Dropbox file or folder, checks shared links, and reads content when asked. Handy when you need to know what a file is and who can open it.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill inspect-dropbox-file -a codexWhat inspect-dropbox-file does
The skill is read-only. It takes your request, locates the file or folder, calls get_file_metadata, and returns a summary: name, path, type, size, modified time. If the target is unclear, it falls back to search or list_folder first.
Content is a separate step. Ask about it and the skill pulls the file with fetch, then summarizes. Sharing goes through list_shared_links, and the listing is paginated by cursor — the skill won't call it complete until every page is in. A specific link is handled by get_shared_link_metadata.
One hard limit: no link creation, no sharing changes, no copy, move, delete or restore. Version history and rollback stay out of reach until the needed Dropbox MCP tools are exposed. If you want to change something, switch to the matching Dropbox skill instead.
What it helps with
- figure out what a Dropbox file is and when it last changed
- check whether a folder is shared and through which links
- read a file and get a short summary of it
- resolve a specific shared link and its metadata
- locate a file when the name in the request is vague
Example prompts for the agent
- What is the Dropbox file at
/Projects/brief.docx? - Check whether
/Clients/Acmeis shared and list all its links - Read
/Reports/q3.pdfand summarize the main points
