byok-custom-model — Claude Code skill for custom models
Register a chat model in Starchild using your own API key. Choose a preset provider or configure another endpoint from its API example.
npx skills add Starchild-ai-agent/official-skills --skill byok-custom-model -a claude-codeWhat byok-custom-model does
This skill adds a custom LLM endpoint to Starchild’s model selector. It includes presets for 12 providers, including Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, and Meta. For a provider without a preset, it can inspect an API request example from the provider’s documentation and prepare a draft configuration.
Python functions handle preset discovery, model listing, and adding or removing entries. For a custom provider, supply an API example without a real key, then review the draft. If registration needs an API key, the agent must call request_env_input to open the secure input flow; the script cannot open it on its own. Keep the key out of chat.
The endpoint is accessed directly rather than through the platform proxy. That means the selected provider or aggregator receives the project’s requests, so choose the endpoint with that in mind.
What it helps with
- add a preset model to Starchild’s selector
- register an API endpoint from another provider
- inspect the registered custom models
- remove a model entry
Example prompts for the agent
- Add an Anthropic chat model to Starchild using my API key.
- Use this provider’s API example to prepare a custom model draft.
- List my registered models and remove the entry I choose.
