video-edit · calesthio — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Local video editing via ready-made instructions for the ffmpeg CLI tool. It helps slice footage, adapt aspect ratios for social networks, and compress tracks.
npx skills add calesthio/OpenMontage --skill video-edit -a claude-codeWhat video-edit does
The skill equips the agent with recipes for running ffmpeg and ffprobe directly. No wrapper scripts are needed. The assistant generates exact terminal commands to trim footage, stitch clips losslessly using -c copy, or strip audio into an MP3 track.
It includes ready-made aspect ratio filters for social channels. Videos can be fitted to TikTok vertical resolution of 1080x1920 or standard YouTube dimensions with balanced letterboxing. Compression uses the CRF scale, where 23 serves as the default setting.
Without ffmpeg and ffprobe installed in the system PATH, every command will fail. On macOS, the package installs through Homebrew, while Debian and Ubuntu use apt. Extended command flags are documented in references/operations.md.
What it helps with
- trim video segments quickly without re-encoding via
-c copy - reformat horizontal footage for TikTok or Instagram reels
- join multiple clips into one file using a text list
- extract audio tracks to MP3 or replace background sound
- compress video files with CRF quality controls
Example prompts for the agent
