What c-research does

The skill connects your coding agent to the summarize command-line utility. Whenever you ask the agent to inspect a link, review an article, or read a document, it invokes summarize with a full URL or absolute path. The tool processes web pages, local or remote PDF files, YouTube videos, and podcast MP3 feeds.

You can choose the format. The CLI accepts --format bullets for bulleted takeaways or --format paragraph for continuous prose. Articles default to bullet points, while videos and podcasts use plain paragraphs. For YouTube, you must provide full URLs containing watch?v=. Shortened links might fail.

Large PDF files take longer. Without the summarize command-line tool installed on your machine, this skill will fail immediately.

What it helps with

  • Summarize articles from web URLs
  • Extract key points from local or remote PDFs
  • Condense YouTube videos into concise text
  • Review audio podcast episodes without full playback

Example prompts for the agent

  • Read https://example.com/article and give me bullet points of the key facts
  • Summarize the local report at /path/to/document.pdf
  • Check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID and summarize the main arguments

Questions about c-research

How do I install c-research in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-research -a claude-code. You can also place the skill file directly at ~/.claude/skills/c-research/SKILL.md.

What does c-research do?

The skill delegates URLs and file paths to the summarize command-line tool. It accepts web pages, PDFs, YouTube videos, and podcast feeds, returning structured summaries.

Why does it require full YouTube URLs?

Short links might fail to resolve properly. Always pass the standard watch?v= URL so the underlying tool can fetch the video.

## What This Skill Does

Uses the `summarize` CLI to extract key information from URLs, PDFs, YouTube videos, and podcast feeds. Returns a concise summary of the content.

## CLI Tool: `summarize`

### Common Commands

```bash
# Summarize a web URL
summarize https://example.com/article
# Summarize a PDF (local file or URL)
summarize /path/to/document.pdf
summarize https://example.com/report.pdf
# Summarize a YouTube video
summarize https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID
# Summarize a podcast episode
summarize https://podcast-feed-url.com/episode.mp3
# Request a specific output format
summarize --format bullets https://example.com/article
summarize --format paragraph https://example.com/article
```

## Usage Guidelines

1. Always pass the full URL or absolute file path.
2. For YouTube, use the full `watch?v=` URL — short links may not resolve.
3. If the user asks to "look up", "read", or "check" a link, default to summarizing it.
4. Present the summary in a clean, readable format — use bullet points for articles, prose for videos/podcasts.

## Notes

- Requires an active internet connection for remote content.
- Very large PDFs may take longer to process.
- If `summarize` is not installed, check the project docs for the install method.
