business-intelligence — Claude Code skill: dashboards, KPIs, reports
Turns the agent into a BI specialist who designs dashboards, defines metrics and sets up scheduled reporting.
npx skills add borghei/Claude-Skills --skill business-intelligence -a claude-codeWhat business-intelligence does
The skill gives the agent a senior BI role. It asks about audience, the decisions a dashboard has to support and how fresh the data must be, then walks through KPI definitions, chart choice, a semantic layer and delivery setup.
A YAML template captures each metric: formula, source, owner, target and warning/critical thresholds. A matrix maps a data question to a chart type, from trend lines to choropleth maps. For automation the skill ships sample configs for a cron-style schedule and for threshold alerts, plus a Python outline that refreshes sources, computes metrics, builds charts and distributes the result.
The performance checklist caps a page at 5–8 visualizations and pushes heavy dashboards toward extracts instead of live connections. Keep the logic in the semantic layer or warehouse, not in calculated fields. Load time should stay under 5 seconds. Note that metric_validator.py wants every KPI field filled, so a metric without a formula, source and owner will not pass — settle those before you validate.
What it helps with
- design a dashboard for a specific audience
- define a KPI with formula, source and thresholds
- pick the right chart type for a data question
- schedule recurring reports and threshold alerts
- speed up a slow dashboard with an optimization checklist
Example prompts for the agent
- Design an executive dashboard covering revenue and pipeline, refreshed daily
- Write a KPI definition for monthly revenue with formula, source and RAG thresholds
- Set up a weekly sales report as PDF with an alert when revenue drops below target

What do I need before using it?
Settled KPI fields: formula, data source, owner and RAG thresholds. metric_validator.py checks exactly those.
