accrual-schedule — Claude Code skill: compute period-end accruals
A skill that automates the accrual schedule for month-end close. For each accrual, it calculates the amount, cites the support, and drafts a journal entry for controller approval.
npx skills add anthropics/financial-services --skill accrual-schedule -a claude-codeWhat accrual-schedule does
At period close, accountants must accrue items per company policy: audit fees, bonuses, utilities and the like. The skill takes a policy list, computes the accrual amount per period (basis × day fraction), subtracts what is already booked, and outputs one table: accrual name, basis with source, already posted, this-period accrual, support reference.
For each row with a non-zero amount, the skill drafts a journal entry: debit the expense account, credit the accrued liability, memo with accrual name, period, and source. If the policy marks the accrual as auto-reversing, the skill notes "reverses on day 1 of next period" in the memo. The entry is a draft for controller sign-off, not a posting.
A reader worker extracts amounts from invoices and statements; the skill applies policy. It can query the internal-gl MCP to sum prior accruals and posted invoices for the item.
What it helps with
- build an accrual schedule for month-end close
- compute accrual amount based on period days
- draft a journal entry for controller approval
- track which accruals are already posted and which are due
- automate reversal of temporary accruals
Example prompts for the agent
- Build an accrual schedule for December for Acme Corp using the accrual policy
- Calculate accruals from vendor invoices and the bonus plan, draft entries
- Generate accrual journal entries with support references for controller review

Questions about accrual-schedule
How do I install accrual-schedule in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add anthropics/financial-services --skill accrual-schedule -a claude-code, then open ~/.claude/skills/accrual-schedule/SKILL.md. The skill is ready to use.
What does accrual-schedule do?
It takes your accrual policy, calculates the accrual amount for each item in the period, cites the source document, and drafts a journal entry. You get a schedule table and a set of draft entries ready for controller review.
Does the skill post entries to the GL?
No. The skill drafts entries only. A human — usually the controller — reviews and posts them. This lets you verify the calculation and source before the entry hits the general ledger.

--- name: accrual-schedule description: Build the period-end accrual schedule — for each accrual, compute the entry, cite the support, and draft the JE.
