slack — Codex plugin: work with Slack from your agent
Connects Slack to Codex through a configured integration so the agent can read channels and threads. Useful when your team talks in Slack.
Open on GitHubWhat slack does
The plugin gives the agent access to Slack via an integration you set up. Under the hood it ships an MCP config, .mcp.json, with an OAuth client_id published in the open. No client secret is included.
That makes it a public OAuth client. The ID can be copied to impersonate the client in OAuth requests, and it cannot prove a request came from this plugin. Access to a Slack account still needs user authorization, so nothing gets read until someone approves it.
If Slack is where your team makes decisions, this is a reason to look at how workspace access is handed out. Built for Codex and ChatGPT.
What it helps with
- read a Slack channel discussion from the agent
- find a specific thread in team chat
- check what was agreed in chat against the code
- pull context out of Slack without switching windows
Example prompts for the agent
- show the latest messages in #general
- find the Slack thread about the deploy and summarize it
- what was posted in #backend today

There is no install command for this plugin — add it through the Claude plugin interface and configure the Slack integration.
What does the slack plugin do?
It lets the agent work with Slack through a configured integration, reading channels and threads. Account access requires user authorization.
Why does a public OAuth client matter?
The client_id sits in .mcp.json in the open and no client secret ships with it. Anyone can copy the ID and impersonate the client in OAuth requests, so it does not prove where a request came from.

# Slack **Warning: this plugin is a public OAuth client.** Its OAuth `client_id` is published in [`.mcp.json`](.mcp.json), and no client secret is included. The public ID can be copied to impersonate the client in OAuth requests; it cannot prove that a request comes from this plugin. Access to a Slack account still requires user authorization.
