mixpanel-headless — Codex plugin: what it does, how to install
Connects Codex to Mixpanel via the mixpanel_headless Python SDK for funnels, retention, and custom pandas analytics.
Open on GitHubWhat mixpanel-headless does
Unlike plugins/mixpanel which relies on a hosted connector, this plugin targets coding workflows. Codex installs the local mixpanel_headless SDK, writes Python, and runs pandas routines. You can join event metrics directly with local files.
Four skills handle the workflow. mixpanel-headless-setup prepares the environment and verifies credentials. Project switching and OAuth live inside mixpanel-auth. The mixpanelyst skill inspects schemas, retention, and event funnels. Dashboard updates run through dashboard-expert.
Non-interactive setups require MP_OAUTH_TOKEN, MP_PROJECT_ID, and MP_REGION. Never paste tokens into chat. Export them inside your local shell or secret manager instead.
What it helps with
- calculate conversion funnels using Mixpanel event schemas
- run user retention and flow analysis with Python scripts
- combine Mixpanel tracking data with local files
- inspect and update Mixpanel dashboards through Codex
Example prompts for the agent
- Use
mixpanel-headless-setupto install dependencies and verify my login. - Analyze signup dropoff in Mixpanel with Python.
- Inspect the checkout event schema and calculate conversion.
Questions about mixpanel-headless
How to install mixpanel-headless in Codex?
Run the mixpanel-headless-setup skill to install mixpanel_headless and its dependencies. Then execute mp login in your terminal to complete authentication.
How does mixpanel-headless differ from the default mixpanel plugin?
The default plugins/mixpanel relies on a hosted connector. In contrast, mixpanel-headless runs a local Python SDK, letting Codex execute pandas code and combine analytics with local files.
How do you authenticate in headless environments?
Export MP_OAUTH_TOKEN, MP_PROJECT_ID, and MP_REGION="us" in your terminal environment. Keep raw tokens out of the chat prompt.

# Mixpanel Headless Analyze Mixpanel data from Codex with the `mixpanel_headless` Python SDK. This plugin is intentionally separate from `plugins/mixpanel`, which wraps the hosted Mixpanel connector. `mixpanel-headless` is for coding-agent workflows where Codex installs a local SDK, writes Python, uses pandas and plotting libraries, and can compose Mixpanel analysis with local files or other data sources. ## Skills | Skill | Purpose | | --- | --- | | `mixpanel-headless-setup` | Install `mixpanel_headless` and common analysis dependencies, then verify credentials. | | `mixpanel-auth` | Check sessions, list/use accounts, run OAuth login, switch projects or workspaces, and manage targets. | | `mixpanelyst` | Discover event schemas and run segmentation, funnel, retention, flow, and user-profile analyses. | | `dashboard-expert` | Analyze, create, modify, and explain Mixpanel dashboards. | ## Quick Start 1. Use `mixpanel-headless-setup` to install dependencies and verify auth. 2. Use `mixpanel-auth` if account, project, workspace, or target selection needs setup. 3. Ask an analytics question, such as "Analyze signup dropoff in Mixpanel with Python." ## Authentication The SDK supports service accounts, browser OAuth, and bearer-token based OAuth. The recommended first setup command is: ```bash mp login ``` For non-interactive contexts, configure: ```bash export MP_OAUTH_TOKEN="<bearer-token>" export MP_PROJECT_ID="<project-id>" export MP_REGION="us" ``` Do not paste secrets into chat. Set them in the local shell or credential store. ## Source The skills are adapted from Mixpanel's public headless SDK plugin: https://github.com/mixpanel/mixpanel-headless/tree/main/mixpanel-plugin SDK documentation: https://mixpanel.github.io/mixpanel-headless/
