wpf-visual-tree — Claude Code MCP server
This MCP server lets an AI agent inspect and operate a running WPF app, including its element tree, bindings, screenshots, and UI input.
Open on GitHubWhat wpf-visual-tree does
wpf-visual-tree exposes a running WPF application through MCP. An agent can discover WPF processes, walk visual and logical trees, read control properties, search elements by type or name, and watch property changes.
It also inspects bindings, DataContext, resources, styles, templates, and binding errors. The server supports screenshots, text entry, clicks, mouse dragging, and touch gestures. Setup requires the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime, the WpfVisualTreeMcp-vX.Y.Z-win-x64.zip package, and an .mcp.json entry pointing to WpfVisualTreeMcp.Server.exe. Touch actions depend on input support in the application, so they can fail when the app does not handle those gestures.
What it helps with
- inspect a WPF visual or logical tree
- trace a binding error through its DataContext
- check control properties, resources, or styles
- capture the state of a running WPF window
- send text, clicks, drags, or touch input
Example prompts for the agent
- Inspect my running WPF app and explain why the Save button is disabled.
- Find the binding problem affecting the status field and inspect its DataContext.
- Search the element tree, fill the form, and submit it.
