What UNICEF Stats MCP does

This MCP server links your coding assistant to the official SDMX REST endpoint of the UNICEF Data Warehouse. It provides access to over 790 child-focused indicators, including nutrition, mortality rates, immunization, sanitation, and schooling. You can segment records by gender, age groups, household wealth quintiles, and urban or rural areas.

Internally, it acts as a lightweight wrapper around the unicefdata Python library. The tool provides 9 operations covering indicator discovery, metadata lookups, and JSON payload retrieval tailored for model context. Built-in caching handles repeat requests smoothly without needing developer registration or authentication credentials.

A single tool call caps output at 500 records, which makes large batch extractions impractical. For full dataset exports, use the upstream unicefdata library instead. The repository is an independent open-source project and not an endorsed UNICEF release.

What it helps with

  • retrieve child mortality and nutrition metrics for over 200 countries
  • break down international development stats by gender, age, and residence
  • inspect global education and immunization figures without signing up for an API key
  • stream structured SDMX statistics into conversational agent context

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show child mortality trends in Brazil over the last five years broken down by sex.
  • Find primary education completion rates in Kenya and compare them across wealth quintiles.
  • Look up the latest immunization coverage indicators available for Pakistan.
