What Tripitaka MCP does

Tripitaka MCP gives an AI client access to the Pāli Tipiṭaka. It can search by terms or meaning, retrieve a text by identifier, compare aligned translations, and prepare an academic citation. Responses include links to a bilingual reader where the cited passage is highlighted.

The server also connects searches to dictionaries with more than 20,000 entries and can reduce inflected Pāli words to a root form. It exposes HTTP transport and MCP resources for canon structure, suttas, and words. The hosted service limits each IP to 10 requests per 10 seconds and 60 requests per minute, so repeated requests can reach that limit.

What it helps with

  • find suttas about a specific topic
  • compare translations of one passage
  • retrieve a text by an ID such as mn1
  • generate an academic citation
  • check a Pāli word in the dictionaries

Example prompts for the agent

  • Find suttas where anger is discussed and include source links.
  • Show mn1 in Pāli and English, then format a citation.
  • Compare translations of a passage about mindfulness of breathing and explain sati.
