Scholar Feed — Claude Code MCP server: ranked paper search
Ranks CS, AI and ML papers by citations, recency or rising impact, with summaries and citation trails. Useful when a literature scan has to happen inside the editor.
claude mcp add --transport http scholar-feed-mcp 'https://mcp.scholarfeed.org/mcp?src=mcp-registry'What Scholar Feed does
Results come back ranked, not as a flat list. You can order papers by relevance, by citation count, or by momentum, and each one carries an LLM-written summary and a novelty score. Citation trails run both ways across 22M+ edges, so you can see what a paper builds on and who picks it up later.
Anonymous use needs no key and allows 200 calls a month. A free SF_API_KEY from the Scholar Feed settings page raises that to 500 and unlocks a personal library of collections, saved papers and watches. Skip the key and the library stays out of reach.
The setup wizard npx scholar-feed-mcp@latest init detects your client and writes the config for you. Everywhere else the server runs over stdio through npx. Codex expects TOML rather than JSON, and the key goes in an env line there. In Zed an entry without "source": "custom" gets skipped without a warning.
What it helps with
- find recent papers on a topic and order them by citation count
- trace who cites a paper and which works it relies on
- pull BibTeX for papers similar to a given one without leaving the editor
- see what is moving in one arXiv category this week
- locate researchers active in a specific area
Example prompts for the agent
- Find papers on test-time compute scaling, sorted by citation count
- Pull papers close to 2401.04088 and export their BibTeX
- What came out in cs.CV this week? Summarise the top three

Run claude mcp add scholar-feed -- npx -y scholar-feed-mcp@latest. The interactive npx scholar-feed-mcp@latest init does the same after detecting your client.
What does Scholar Feed do?
It searches CS, AI and ML papers, ranks them by citations or rising impact, and traces citation links forward and backward from any paper.
Do I need an API key?
No. Anonymous access covers 200 calls a month. A free SF_API_KEY raises the limit to 500 and adds saved papers and collections.
