SRS Residual Gas Analyzer — Claude Code MCP server
This MCP server lets an AI agent inspect SRS residual-gas analyzers, read spectra and pressure, screen gas peaks, and run helium leak checks.
claude mcp add --env LABMCP_ADDRESS=<LABMCP_ADDRESS> --env LABMCP_SIMULATE=<LABMCP_SIMULATE> --env LABMCP_READ_ONLY=<LABMCP_READ_ONLY> --env LABMCP_LIMITS=<LABMCP_LIMITS> --transport stdio srs-rga -- uvx labmcp-srs-rgaWhat SRS Residual Gas Analyzer does
SRS Residual Gas Analyzer connects an agent to SRS RGA100, RGA200, and RGA300 quadrupole mass spectrometers. The available operations cover partial-pressure readings at selected m/z values, analog or histogram spectra, total pressure, helium leak monitoring, and a first-pass gas assignment. The server also exposes instrument status, recent command traffic, and safety shutoff actions.
Communication uses RS-232 with RTS/CTS handshaking or TCP through a serial-to-Ethernet adapter. Pressure interlocks protect the filament, CDEM, and ionizer, while --read-only blocks changes such as switching and calibration. A simulated device can be checked with uvx labmcp-srs-rga --simulate --check. The package has been tested against a wire-level simulator, not on physical hardware, so real-instrument setup needs care.
What it helps with
- read residual-gas spectra from a vacuum system
- measure total and partial pressure
- check suspected joints with helium
- classify major peaks by m/z
- put the analyzer into a safe state
Example prompts for the agent
- Check the connected SRS analyzer and report the filament and CDEM state.
- Run a histogram scan and identify the main residual gases from its peaks.
- Start a helium leak check at m/z 4 and report responses above the baseline.

Questions about SRS Residual Gas Analyzer
How do I install SRS Residual Gas Analyzer in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add labmcp-srs-rga -- uvx labmcp-srs-rga.
What does SRS Residual Gas Analyzer do?
It gives an AI agent access to SRS RGA measurements, including spectra, pressure, helium leak checks, and preliminary gas identification. It can also read device state and issue safety shutoff actions.
Which instruments and interfaces are supported?
The server supports SRS RGA100, RGA200, and RGA300 models covering up to 100, 200, and 300 amu. Connections use RS-232 with RTS/CTS or TCP through a serial-to-Ethernet adapter.
