showtime — Claude Code MCP server: video and setup
Give your coding agent a video brief and showtime renders the result on your machine, with options for voice-over, music and captions.
claude mcp add --env SHOWTIME_MCP_BASE=<SHOWTIME_MCP_BASE> --env SHOWTIME_HOME=<SHOWTIME_HOME> --env SHOWTIME_MCP_TOOLS=<SHOWTIME_MCP_TOOLS> --transport stdio showtime -- npx -y @faviovazquez/showtime-mcpWhat showtime does
showtime lets an agent turn a video brief into a locally rendered clip. A project can include motion graphics, narration, music, sound design, captions and edited footage, with exports for different platforms. It works without cloud AI services or API keys.
Install uv and Node.js first. The project supports Node.js 24 or 22 LTS, and also works with version 20 or later. Restart your agent after installing them. On its first run, the agent can report the size of required downloads and ask before setting up; some components are fetched when a video first needs them. Rendering happens on your own machine, so expect the assets to download locally.
In Claude Code, add the server with npx and then describe the video you want. Each job gets its own output folder, and existing files are left untouched. This makes the local setup and its downloads part of the workflow.
What it helps with
- make a launch video for a project
- add narration and music to a clip
- create captions for a video
- edit footage into a finished clip
- export a video for a platform
Example prompts for the agent
- Make a launch video for this project with narration and upbeat music.
- Edit these clips into a short video and add captions; save the result separately.
- Create a narrated video introducing this repository.
