quilt — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
quilt tracks edits from multiple AI agents in one Git checkout and lets each session commit its own lines. It suits parallel work without separate worktrees.
claude mcp add quilt -- npx -y @quilt-dev/cliWhat quilt does
quilt assigns edits to agent sessions and keeps line-level provenance. With quilt commit --mine, a session can create a commit from its own lines even when several agents changed the same file. Git remains the authority, while Quilt keeps its local sidecar state in .quilt.
Run quilt setup to wire capture hooks into the repository; the MCP tools can be added as an extra layer. Quilt can reserve symbols such as functions, reject a conflicting write before the file changes, and warn when a claimed symbol depends on code another actor is editing. Whole-file claims cover code outside its symbol support.
Quilt does not call an LLM or create agents. It records and guards their edits. That makes it a coordination layer for a shared checkout, rather than an agent runtime.
What it helps with
- keep several agents in one Git checkout
- commit only the current session's lines
- reserve a function before changing it
- reject writes against another agent's claim
- inspect line ownership and active claims
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up quilt in this repository and verify that edit capture is working.
- Show which files and lines belong to my session, then prepare
quilt preview --mine. - Create a commit containing only my changes with
quilt commit --mine -m "fix auth redirect".
