photoshop-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
MCP server that lets AI assistants control Adobe Photoshop. It automates background removal, photo retouching, batch watermarking, and asset exports via chat.
claude mcp add photoshop-mcp -- npx -y @alisaitteke/photoshop-mcpWhat photoshop-mcp does
The server exposes 128 Photoshop tools to an AI agent: 111 atomic actions alongside 17 multi-step recipes. You tell the assistant what to edit, and it handles layer masks, skin smoothing, batch watermarking across folders, or slicing wide graphics into social carousels. Each multi-step recipe registers as a single undo state in Photoshop. Mistakes take one step to revert.
You can drive edits directly from Claude Code or spin up a standalone browser chat with npx -p @alisaitteke/photoshop-mcp ui. The UI supports experimental intent routing through TypeSafe AI's Jev model. When enabled with TYPESAFE_API_KEY, safe commands execute straight in Photoshop without spending LLM tokens. Generative fill features require an Adobe account.
Photoshop must be actively running on Windows or macOS for the server to work. The package requires Node.js 18 or newer and supports Photoshop releases from 2012 onward.
What it helps with
- Remove backgrounds while preserving an editable layer mask
- Retouch skin and fix tonal balance on portraits
- Slice wide documents into sequential carousel slides
- Apply watermarks across an entire photo folder
- Prepare graphics with correct sizing and sRGB profiles for export
Example prompts for the agent
