mcp-server · pdfgate — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Connects your assistant to the PDFGate API to convert HTML into PDF documents, manage form fields, and coordinate digital signatures.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://mcp.pdfgate.com/serverWhat mcp-server does
This integration connects coding assistants to document operations on the PDFGate platform. The model can convert HTML markup into static files, flatten form controls, and apply watermark graphics. It also handles file encryption through passwords and permission flags.
Digital signatures use signing envelopes. You can track completion states, void active requests, or generate embedded signing links for recipients. An optional webhook server listens for status events on local port 3599. To capture live envelope changes, you must forward this port via a tunnel.
Setup works either through the hosted endpoint at https://mcp.pdfgate.com/server or locally with @pdfgate/mcp-server. You need an API token. Environment routing depends entirely on the token prefix: test_ routes calls to the sandbox, while live_ triggers the production endpoint.
What it helps with
- convert raw HTML or URL targets into PDF files
- dispatch signing envelopes to multiple recipients
- insert interactive fields and flatten forms
- compress output documents and apply password protection
Example prompts for the agent
- Generate an invoice PDF from this HTML snippet and compress the output
- Prepare a contract envelope and create an embedded signing link for the user
- Read the filled form data from the uploaded agreement

Questions about mcp-server
How to install mcp-server in Claude Code?
To connect to the hosted endpoint, run claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://mcp.pdfgate.com/server. For a local stdio connection, execute `claude mcp add --env PDFGATE_API_KEY=<PDFGATE_API_KEY> --env PDFGATE_WEBHOOK_PORT=<PDFGATE_WEBHOOK_PORT> --transport stdio pdfgate-mcp-server -- npx -y @pdfgate/mcp-server`.
What does mcp-server do?
It exposes PDFGate capabilities directly to AI assistants. The toolset covers PDF creation, document security, interactive form processing, and e-signature tracking.
What is the difference between test_ and live_ tokens?
The token string dictates the backend destination. Providing a key with the test_ prefix targets the sandbox, while a live_ key directs requests to production.
