open-zk-kb — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
A local memory layer for AI assistants that carries decisions, preferences, and corrections into later sessions. Useful when project context keeps getting repeated.
claude mcp add open-zk-kb -- npx -y open-zk-kbWhat open-zk-kb does
open-zk-kb stores knowledge as linked Zettelkasten notes. A note can capture a decision, preference, or project-specific edge case. Through MCP, the assistant can save information, search the vault, load relevant context, and inspect its status.
Search joins SQLite FTS5 with local MiniLM-L6-v2 vector embeddings. Markdown files are the canonical records, while SQLite can be rebuilt as an index. The data stays on the machine, and local embeddings work without an API key.
The quick installer needs Bun, so bunx open-zk-kb@latest will not run without it. The vault remains readable and editable as Markdown, with version control available; the server can also be connected to Claude Code and other MCP clients.
What it helps with
- carry corrections between agent sessions
- share project context across AI clients
- retrieve related decisions by meaning
- keep an editable Markdown knowledge vault
Example prompts for the agent
- Save this project convention so you can follow it in future sessions.
- Search the vault for decisions related to error handling in this module.
- Show the active preferences for this project.
