Open Agreements — Claude Code MCP server: fill agreement templates
Fills standard agreement templates — NDAs, SAFEs, NVCA docs, employment — and returns a DOCX draft for human review.
claude mcp add --transport http open-agreements https://openagreements.org/api/mcpWhat Open Agreements does
The server hands your agent a catalog of standard forms and fills them with the values you supply. Output is a DOCX file you open in Word or any other viewer. Filling runs on your machine with the stdio variant via npx; the hosted mode renders server-side and does not store the document after the response.
The standard form stays authoritative until rendering. Your values become the transaction-specific inputs, and the DOCX is a draft nobody signs automatically. Omitted cover terms fall back to defaults: a one-year term, Delaware governing law; the CLI reports which priority fields still need attention.
The project ships legal information and document mechanics, not legal advice. Whether a form or clause fits a deal is a human call. Some field-selector workflows pull an official source document at runtime, which matters if you have strict document-handling rules. Code is Apache-2.0 while content keeps its source-specific license, so check each template's metadata.yaml before redistribution or modification.
What it helps with
- fill a mutual NDA from a standard form and party details
- get a DOCX with populated fields instead of hand-formatting in Word
- see which agreement fields are still unfilled
- find practice guides that cite primary law
- compare jurisdictional requirements against a checklist
Example prompts for the agent
- Fill

- Which priority fields in this NDA are still empty?

Questions about Open Agreements
How do I install Open Agreements in Claude Code?
For the hosted mode: claude mcp add --transport http open-agreements https://openagreements.org/api/mcp. For the local stdio variant: claude mcp add open-agreements -- npx -y @open-agreements/contract-templates-mcp.
What does Open Agreements do?
It fills standard agreement templates — NDAs, SAFEs, NVCA docs, employment — and produces a DOCX for review. It also publishes practice guides with primary-law citations and review checklists.
Where are documents processed?
The local CLI and stdio MCP mode stay on your machine. The hosted mode fills templates server-side and does not store filled documents after the response is returned.
