MCP Server for PowerPoint — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Create or edit PowerPoint decks through an AI assistant, then export slides as PDFs or images. The server requires Windows and desktop Microsoft PowerPoint.
claude mcp add mcp-server-powerpoint -- npx -y @sbroenne/mcp-server-powerpointWhat MCP Server for PowerPoint does
The server lets an assistant build a deck from scratch or work on an existing .pptx file. It can add slides, format text and shapes, insert images, tables and charts, and write speaker notes. It can also apply a .potx or .pptx template and manage slide reading order for accessibility.
Tools are organized by domain: shape, table and chart each use an action parameter to select an operation. Export slides to PDF or images for visual review. You need Windows and desktop Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 or later; the server controls a real PowerPoint process, so it does not fit headless or server-side workflows. Close the target presentation before automation, since the server needs exclusive access to it.
What it helps with
- build a slide deck from a topic and outline
- add a data table or chart to a slide
- apply a template to an existing presentation
- export slides as images for layout review
- write speaker notes for each slide
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a presentation about the project results with a title slide and content slides.
- Add a table with this data and place a bar chart beside it.
- Export slide 3 as an image and check whether the chart covers any text.
