LabJack T-series DAQ — Claude Code MCP server: setup and features
Connect an AI agent to LabJack T4, T7/T7-Pro, or T8 for input readings, thermocouple measurements, and waveform capture. Use it to inspect signals or control device outputs through chat.
claude mcp add --env LABMCP_ADDRESS=<LABMCP_ADDRESS> --env LABMCP_SIMULATE=<LABMCP_SIMULATE> --env LABMCP_READ_ONLY=<LABMCP_READ_ONLY> --env LABMCP_LIMITS=<LABMCP_LIMITS> --transport stdio labjack -- uvx labmcp-labjackWhat LabJack T-series DAQ does
The server talks to LabJack devices through the LJM library. An agent can read analog and digital inputs, measure a thermocouple, capture timed waveforms, and optionally save the results as CSV. Separate tools control DAC and digital outputs; launch with --read-only to block those write tools while keeping set_outputs_safe available.
A real device needs the native LJM library and USB driver installed first. Close Kipling, LJLogM, and LJStreamM before connecting, since USB access is limited to one process at a time. You can exercise the server without hardware using uvx labmcp-labjack --simulate. The simulator has been tested, but the server has not yet been verified on physical LabJack hardware, so simulated results do not establish device behavior.
What it helps with
- read voltage from analog channels
- capture a waveform and save it as CSV
- measure a thermocouple
- inspect digital line states
- return outputs to a safe state
Example prompts for the agent
- Read AIN0 and AIN1, then compare their voltage readings.
- Capture a waveform from AIN0, save it as CSV, and report channel statistics.
- Check the digital lines and put the outputs into a safe state.
How to install LabJack T-series DAQ
Platform CLI
claude mcp add --env LABMCP_ADDRESS=<LABMCP_ADDRESS> --env LABMCP_SIMULATE=<LABMCP_SIMULATE> --env LABMCP_READ_ONLY=<LABMCP_READ_ONLY> --env LABMCP_LIMITS=<LABMCP_LIMITS> --transport stdio labjack -- uvx labmcp-labjackReplace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from labmcp-labjack <command>

Questions about LabJack T-series DAQ
How do I install LabJack T-series DAQ in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add labmcp-labjack -- uvx labmcp-labjack. Add the device address to the server configuration when connecting to a specific LabJack.
What does LabJack T-series DAQ do?
It lets an agent read analog and digital inputs, measure thermocouples, and capture streamed signals. It also provides tools for controlling DAC and digital outputs.
What is required to connect a physical LabJack?
Install the native LJM library and USB driver. Close Kipling, LJLogM, and LJStreamM first because only one process can claim a device over USB.
