IBGE Brasil MCP — Claude Code MCP server: Brazilian public data
Lets your assistant query the official IBGE APIs directly: Brazilian geography, census figures, economy and health, each answer carrying its source.
claude mcp add --transport http ibge-br-mcp https://ibge.sidneybissoli.com/mcpWhat IBGE Brasil MCP does
Instead of guessing a population number from training data, the assistant calls the IBGE API while you chat. The server ships 23 tools: 21 data tools under the ibge_ prefix plus search and fetch for ChatGPT Deep Research. Reference resources and analysis prompt templates come with it.
Every successful response includes a provenance block. It names the API that was queried, gives a canonical URL that reproduces the call, the reference period, the actual extraction time in Brasília time, a citation you can paste, and the legal regime. The same data reaches the client three ways: inside structuredContent.provenance, in _meta, and as a short footer on the Markdown for text-only clients. Statistical mode and ibge_comparar return aggregates the server computed itself, and those are labelled as derived.
Keep revisions in mind. IBGE republishes figures and keeps no earlier snapshot, so a value reflects what SIDRA serves at extraction time. If a series disagrees with an older report, a revision explains it more often than a bug.
What it helps with
- look up a city's population from the 2022 census
- list the municipalities of a state
- compare GDP across Southeast state capitals
- pull official IBGE figures into an assistant answer
- keep a source link for every number
Example prompts for the agent
- List the municipalities of Espírito Santo.
- Compare GDP across the Southeast state capitals.
