Gemmein — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Gives coding agents Gemmein docs, SDK help, error explanations, and live checks of app access boundaries. Useful when building or validating a Gemmein integration.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp https://api.gemmein.com/mcpWhat Gemmein does
The server exposes tools for searching Gemmein’s builder guide and SDK reference. An agent can look up rules, interpret errors, check collection names, and explain relay definitions. It can also run an app’s isolation and access checks and return pass/fail results.
Eight tools are read-only. With a development secret key, check_integration also changes the development environment: it creates test users and a probe record, removes the record, and ends earlier sessions for those users. Account for that side effect before running the live check. No environment variables are needed to start the server.
For Claude Code, connect it as a local process with npx and @gemmein/mcp. This server runs independently of the Gemmein engine.
What it helps with
- look up an SDK method and its signature
- interpret a
GemmeinErrorcode - catch a collection naming mistake before querying
- understand an access rule or relay definition
- run live isolation and access checks on an app
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the Gemmein guide’s instructions for setting up the auth flow.
- Explain what this
GemmeinErrormeans and what change would address it. - Run
check_integrationto test my app’s isolation and access boundaries.

Questions about Gemmein
How do I install Gemmein in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add gemmein -- npx -y @gemmein/mcp to add the server as a local process.
What does the Gemmein MCP server do?
It gives a coding agent tools to search Gemmein documentation, interpret SDK errors and rules, and test an app’s access boundaries.
Can check_integration modify development data?
Yes. With a development secret key, it creates test users and a record, deletes the record, and ends those users’ earlier sessions.
