Foxit PDF API MCP Server — Claude Code MCP server for PDF work
Gives your agent Foxit's cloud PDF operations: build, convert, split, merge, password, forms. You supply credentials from the Foxit developer portal.
claude mcp add foxit-pdf-api-mcp-server -e FOXIT_CLOUD_API_HOST=<FOXIT_CLOUD_API_HOST> -e FOXIT_CLOUD_API_CLIENT_ID=<FOXIT_CLOUD_API_CLIENT_ID> -e FOXIT_CLOUD_API_CLIENT_SECRET=<FOXIT_CLOUD_API_CLIENT_SECRET> -- npx -y @foxitsoftware/foxit-pdf-api-mcp-serverWhat Foxit PDF API MCP Server does
The server turns Foxit PDF Services API into callable tools, so the agent handles documents mid-conversation instead of you switching apps. Inputs it can turn into PDF include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, a URL, plain text and images. Conversion runs the other way too. Page-level tools cover splitting, merging, extracting, compressing, flattening, linearising and watermarking, plus password add/remove, permission settings, metadata and property extraction, PDF comparison, form data as JSON in both directions, and OCR.
Two builds exist. Python uses FastMCP, needs Python 3.11+ and the uv package manager; the TypeScript build wants Node.js 18+ and pnpm. Both are described as actively developed with matching feature sets. An older stdio-python directory is marked deprecated. Because it ships on npm, the npx launch path only asks for Node.js on your machine.
The catch is the cloud. Every operation happens on Foxit's side, so the server refuses to start without FOXIT_CLOUD_API_HOST, FOXIT_CLOUD_API_CLIENT_ID and FOXIT_CLOUD_API_CLIENT_SECRET. Get the ID and secret by signing up at the Foxit Developer Portal. Since each file leaves your machine, client documents under NDA are a bad fit for this setup.
What it helps with
- turn a docx or HTML file into a PDF while chatting with the agent
- split or merge a PDF without opening a desktop editor
- strip a password and set print permissions on a document
- compare two PDF versions and pull their metadata
- export form fields to JSON and import them back
Example prompts for the agent
- Turn
report.docxinto a PDF and save it next to the source - Compress
scan.pdfand stamp “Draft” across the pages - Diff
v1.pdfagainstv2.pdfand list which pages changed
