fiftyone-mcp-server — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Give an AI agent access to FiftyOne datasets, operators, and app controls. Use it to query data or work with the interface through natural language.
claude mcp add fiftyone-mcp-server -- uvx fiftyone-mcp-serverWhat fiftyone-mcp-server does
The server lets an agent inspect FiftyOne datasets, run operators, and control the FiftyOne App. Its tools cover aggregations, sample fields and tags, schema changes, and plugin management. It includes 50 operators; installing plugins adds more capabilities.
Tools run in SDK, APP, or SESSION mode. SDK operations work without an app connection, while APP mode needs a connected browser through ctx.ops to control the interface. SESSION tools can start a local App server. The distinction matters: without that browser connection, real-time UI control is unavailable.
What it helps with
- list datasets and retrieve a summary
- run a FiftyOne operator on dataset content
- change sample fields or tags
- control the FiftyOne App view
Example prompts for the agent
- Show my available FiftyOne datasets and summarize each one.
- Find images similar to this sample in my dataset.
- Select samples in the FiftyOne App and open a panel.
