emailmd — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Converts markdown into email-ready HTML, lints drafts for deliverability issues, and builds charts without images.
claude mcp add --transport http emailmd https://www.emailmd.dev/api/mcpWhat emailmd does
The server converts markdown into responsive HTML and plain-text alternatives that render predictably in Outlook, Apple Mail, and Gmail. It runs MJML 5 under the hood. It exposes three MCP tools: render to produce email-safe markup, lint to detect deliverability risks before sending, and read_docs to check syntax reference.
Metrics such as sparklines, KPI tiles, and bar charts are built entirely out of text glyphs and table cells instead of SVG or linked images. They remain visible even if a recipient's mail reader suppresses external assets. In the plain-text part, data remains formatted instead of collapsing into a raw list of figures.
Local execution via npx requires Node 20+ due to MJML 5 dependencies. When you want to avoid local runtime requirements, connect directly to the hosted HTTP endpoint instead.
What it helps with
- compile markdown drafts into responsive HTML tested across major email clients
- audit newsletter markup for potential deliverability warnings before sending
- draw charts and progress indicators without external image hosting
- generate both HTML and plain-text MIME parts in one pass
Example prompts for the agent
- Convert newsletter.md into email-safe HTML and produce the plain-text version.
- Lint this email draft with emailmd to catch deliverability issues before dispatching.
- Check the emailmd documentation for directives to render a bar chart.

Questions about emailmd
How to install emailmd in Claude Code?

The charts use standard table cells and text glyphs rather than external images or SVG elements, keeping them visible across strict email clients.
