What Dynoxide does

Dynoxide runs either as an HTTP server or as an MCP server for coding agents. In MCP mode it exposes 35 DynamoDB tools, which lets the agent create tables and read or write items while you work on the code. The storage layer is SQLite; the emulator itself is Rust.

Rust projects get an embedded mode: calls go through Database::memory() with no HTTP layer, and each test gets its own in-memory database. Dynoxide also compiles to WebAssembly for the browser and to a native library with no runtime dependencies, which is how it reaches iOS where DynamoDB Local cannot run.

Conformance against real DynamoDB is tracked through Parity Suite, a test matrix run against AWS and against the major emulators. The README states that Dynoxide and that suite share a maintainer, so weigh that if you plan to lean on the emulator in CI. Install goes through npx; no API key is involved.

What it helps with

  • run a local DynamoDB without a JVM or Docker
  • cut integration test time against DynamoDB
  • give a coding agent access to DynamoDB tables and items
  • try DynamoDB queries in the browser via WebAssembly
  • embed a DynamoDB emulator in a Rust or iOS app

Example prompts for the agent

  • Start Dynoxide and create an orders table keyed on order_id
  • Put a test user into the users table through Dynoxide and read it back
  • Start Dynoxide and list the tables that exist right now

Questions about Dynoxide

How do I install Dynoxide in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add dynoxide -- npx -y dynoxide. That registers the MCP server in your Claude config, and the agent picks up its tools.

What does Dynoxide do?

It is a DynamoDB emulator in Rust backed by SQLite. As an MCP server it hands a coding agent 35 DynamoDB tools; as a library it embeds into Rust and iOS apps.

Does Dynoxide need an AWS key?

No. The emulator runs locally and installs with npx -y dynoxide, so nothing leaves your machine.
