PageSpeed Insights MCP — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup

This server measures pages with PageSpeed Insights and reports the median across distinct analyses, alongside their spread. Use it to assess a change or compare lab results with real-user data.

What PageSpeed Insights MCP does

The server runs multiple distinct analyses and reports a median with the minimum and maximum for each result. It discards cached replays and shows how many runs were dropped, so repeated copies of one analysis do not stand in for separate measurements.

When Google has the data, the server reports Chrome UX Report field measurements separately from Lighthouse lab results. It can also break LCP into four phases and compare a page against a saved baseline. A Google Cloud API key with PageSpeed Insights API enabled is required. To retrieve real-user data, enable Chrome UX Report API as well; an HTTP-referrer restriction makes the key unusable from this program.

What it helps with

  • measure a page using the median of distinct analyses
  • inspect the spread between measurement results
  • compare Lighthouse lab scores with Chrome UX Report data
  • break down an LCP delay by phase
  • compare a page with its baseline after a change

Example prompts for the agent

  • Measure this page on mobile and report the median with its spread.
  • Check whether Chrome UX Report has real-user data for this site.
  • Compare the current page results with the baseline and tell me whether they differ.

Questions about PageSpeed Insights MCP

How do I install PageSpeed Insights MCP in Claude Code?

The project describes cloning the repository and running it; a Google Cloud API key is required. The available installation details do not give the exact setup commands.

What does PageSpeed Insights MCP do?

It collects distinct PageSpeed Insights analyses and reports their median and range. If Chrome UX Report data is available, it presents those real-user measurements separately from Lighthouse lab results.

Does Chrome UX Report need a separate API key?

No. Use the same Google Cloud key, and enable Chrome UX Report API for it if you want field data.
