che-word-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
A Swift-native MCP server for direct DOCX document editing without Microsoft Word or external runtimes. Helpful when an agent must generate, alter, or review Word files.
Open on GitHubWhat che-word-mcp does
che-word-mcp manipulates Office Open XML files directly via a Swift core. Because it ships as a standalone executable, it runs without Python or Microsoft Word. The package provides 234 tools. They cover nested tables up to five levels deep, headers, SDT content controls, formulas and numbering.
File handling splits into two paths. Direct Mode reads documents in a single step using source_path. Session Mode manages the full document lifecycle by doc_id, tracking modified parts and preserving untouched XML structures byte for byte. Atomic file renaming prevents corruption. Snapshot backups happen before mutations when autosave_every is set to 1.
Track changes must be enabled before generating redlines. Setting as_revision: true on an unenabled document aborts immediately with a track_changes_not_enabled error instead of quietly turning the feature on.
What it helps with
- insert redlines and tracked revisions directly into DOCX markup
- construct nested tables up to five levels with conditional styling
- inspect and update structured document tags (SDT)
- configure per-section headers and custom page numbering
Example prompts for the agent
- Open contract.docx in session mode and enable revision tracking.
- Insert a three-column table with a header row into report.docx.
- Inspect all dropdown SDT content controls in template.docx.
