capacitor-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: Capacitor docs on tap
Feeds your assistant current Capacitor documentation, the plugin list and Ionic blog posts. Useful when the agent keeps inventing plugin APIs and CLI flags.
claude mcp add --transport http capacitor-mcp https://capacitor-mcp.capawesome.io/mcpWhat capacitor-mcp does
The server is hosted by Capawesome, so there is nothing to run locally. Four tools come with it: search_docs for keyword lookups, get_doc_page to read a page in full, list_plugins for official and community plugins, and list_blog_posts for recent Ionic blog entries. Docs cover Capacitor v8, v7, v6 and next; pass the version parameter to search_docs and get_doc_page to pick one. Without it you get v8.
Wiring it up takes one line in your client config. In Claude that is claude mcp add --transport http capacitor-mcp https://capacitor-mcp.capawesome.io/mcp. Clients that cannot speak HTTP go through the @capawesome/capacitor-mcp proxy over stdio, which needs Node.js 22 or newer.
The endpoint allows 100 requests per minute per IP. Go over that and you get 429 Too Many Requests; wait a moment and retry. Your IP is handled for that limit alone — the queries themselves and the tool arguments are not kept and do not feed training. This is an unofficial project, with no ties to Ionic or OutSystems.
What it helps with
- check a plugin method signature without leaving the editor
- find a community plugin for a specific job
- match answers to the Capacitor version you actually ship
- catch up on recent Ionic blog posts
- read a full doc page from a search hit
Example prompts for the agent
- Search the Capacitor docs for push notification setup
- List plugins that handle the camera
- Open the
CapacitorHttpdoc page for v7
