Alfanous - Quranic Search Engine — Claude Code MCP server
Searches Quranic verses using Arabic text, Buckwalter transliteration, and linguistic filters. Useful when an assistant needs accurate script matching or verse analysis.
claude mcp add alfanous -- uvx alfanous3-mcpWhat Alfanous - Quranic Search Engine does
This MCP server searches the text of the Holy Qur'an using Arabic script and Buckwalter transliteration. It accepts Boolean logic with +, |, and - operators, alongside wildcard patterns. You can group output by Sura or Juz and filter by verse attributes such as sajda markers.
Two search modes determine how queries match. Exact search targets fully vocalized text where diacritics are strictly significant. Fuzzy search activates the Snowball Arabic stemmer, drops common stop words, and matches typos using Levenshtein edit distance against unvocalized text.
Local execution relies on uvx running the alfanous3-mcp package. Exact matching is strict about diacritics: omitting tashkeel will fail against the vocalized aya_ index.
What it helps with
- search Quranic verses using Arabic phrases, wildcards, or Buckwalter transliteration
- filter verses by Sura, Juz, or specific attributes like sajda
- handle spelling variants and typos via Levenshtein distance matching
- retrieve verse metadata, translations, and recitation indices
Example prompts for the agent
- Search for Quranic verses matching Buckwalter string 'Allh' with sura facets
- Find all verses containing 'الصلاة' and filter by surah Yasin
- Run a fuzzy search for verses with sajda using edit distance 1

Questions about Alfanous - Quranic Search Engine
How do I install Alfanous - Quranic Search Engine in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add alfanous -- uvx alfanous3-mcp in your terminal. You can also use claude mcp add alfanous-quranic-search-engine -- uvx alfanous3-mcp to register the full server name.
What is the difference between exact and fuzzy search?
Exact search matches against vocalized text, treating distinct tashkeel marks as different words. Fuzzy search enables the Snowball stemmer, ignores stop words, and matches typos using Levenshtein distance.
Can I search without typing in Arabic script?
Yes. The engine accepts Buckwalter transliteration, allowing standard ASCII characters to represent Arabic letters directly.
