Aito — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
This MCP server connects Aito to AI assistants and coding agents for predictions, recommendations, search, and queries over your own data.
claude mcp add --env AITO_URL=<AITO_URL> --env AITO_API_KEY=<AITO_API_KEY> --env AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES=<AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES> --transport stdio aito-mcp -- uvx aito-mcpWhat Aito does
Aito exposes tools for predict, recommend, relate, match, search, query, evaluate, get_schema, put_schema, and upload_rows. Responses include $p, a probability that can be thresholded, and $why, which shows the supporting evidence. Tool descriptions also indicate when Aito fits and when a language model, trained model, or search engine is a better option.
The server runs with uvx aito-mcp. It locates an Aito instance through AITO_URL and AITO_API_KEY, or through the profile created by local aito start. It is read-only unless started with AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES=1. Without AITO_API_KEY, it cannot connect to the Aito instance.
What it helps with
- generate predictions from Aito data
- recommend records or items
- find related and matching objects
- search and query stored data
- inspect schemas and upload rows
Example prompts for the agent
- Use Aito to predict the outcome for this record, then show
$pand$why. - Create recommendations from the Aito data and explain the evidence behind each result.
- Inspect the Aito schema, then upload the rows from
data.csv.
How to install Aito
Platform CLI
claude mcp add --env AITO_URL=<AITO_URL> --env AITO_API_KEY=<AITO_API_KEY> --env AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES=<AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES> --transport stdio aito-mcp -- uvx aito-mcpReplace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from aito-mcp <command>
Platform CLI
codex mcp add aito-mcp --env AITO_URL=<AITO_URL> --env AITO_API_KEY=<AITO_API_KEY> --env AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES=<AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES> -- uvx aito-mcpReplace <…> with your own values. uvx runs the command named after the package; if the README names another one, use uvx --from aito-mcp <command>

Questions about Aito
How do I install Aito in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add aito -e AITO_API_KEY=<AITO_API_KEY> -- uvx aito-mcp, then run `claude mcp add --env AITO_URL=<AITO_URL> --env AITO_API_KEY=<AITO_API_KEY> --env AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES=<AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES> --transport stdio aito-mcp -- uvx aito-mcp`.
What does Aito do?
It gives an agent Aito tools for prediction, recommendation, search, matching, and data queries. Results include a probability value in $p and supporting evidence in $why.
How does Aito connect to data, and when can it write?
It uses AITO_URL and AITO_API_KEY, or a local Aito profile created with aito start. Writing is enabled with AITO_MCP_ALLOW_WRITES=1; otherwise the server stays read-only.
