ableton-mind — Claude Code MCP server: setup and features
Control Ableton Live from an MCP client with Live Object Model tools, device knowledge, recipes, and state checks. It fits agent-driven music workflows.
claude mcp add ableton-mind -- npx -y ableton-mindWhat ableton-mind — Ableton Live MCP server does
ableton-mind connects Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and the other listed clients to Ableton Live. The server exposes Live Object Model tools, a built-in device knowledge base, declarative music recipes, and a verification path based on session snapshots and diffs.
The package combines a TypeScript server running on Node 20+ with a Python Remote Script inside Live. They communicate over TCP on port 9876. The server also covers automation envelopes, transactions, reactive events, and read-only inspection of Max for Live and plug-ins. Ableton Live 12 is the priority target, while Live 11 is supported; macOS is the primary platform. The API is alpha and should not be used in production.
What it helps with
- control Ableton Live tracks and devices from an AI agent
- inspect the current set and its device state
- apply music recipes from the embedded knowledge base
- compare a project before and after an agent change
- receive Ableton Live events as MCP notifications
Example prompts for the agent
- Show me the tracks, devices, and key settings in the current Ableton Live set.
- Use an available recipe to add a bass part, then verify the change with a session snapshot diff.
- Inspect the Max for Live and plug-in information in this set.
