Takedown trail raises questions around who’s behind hundreds of Google copyright complaints

Bookmaker 1xBet and sports data provider Sportradar have denied any involvement in a series of copyright complaints filed through Google's DMCA system. The complaints targeted dozens of articles covering both companies' activities.

An Active8Insights investigation found that since October 2025, a sender operating under the name Alex Gramm has filed at least 12 DMCA requests covering 84 URLs across 68 domains. Ten requests targeted material about 1xBet — brand coverage, marketing or investigative reporting. In one complaint filed in October 2025, the sender stated they were acting 'on behalf of 1xBet'.

Targets included articles by Gaming Intelligence, Brazilian outlet Estadão, The Hindu, and coverage of short reports by Callisto Research and Muddy Waters published on 22 April. Those reports accused Sportradar of working with illegal operators and estimated questionable revenue at roughly a third of the company's total. Sportradar shares fell a fifth in a day after the reports came out.

1xBet categorically denies any connection. The bookmaker's strategic adviser Simon Westbury told iGB the company had no involvement in the complaints and was unaware of them. Sportradar also denied any link to Alex Gramm and said it has never initiated removal of articles from search results. A company representative said an independent review commissioned by the audit committee found the allegations groundless.

Active8Insights stated plainly: there is no evidence that 1xBet or Sportradar ordered or authorised the complaints. Only the fact of filing and the focus on critical material has been documented. Google's DMCA mechanism is easily abused, and publications regularly face unfounded requests.

In May 2025, investor litigation against Sportradar (Smale vs Sportradar Group AG) was filed in New York district court alleging securities violations for the period from 7 November 2024 to 21 April 2026. Law firm Robbins Geller is inviting investors to join the class action.
