WarHorse Gaming has broken ground on a casino and hotel in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The ceremony took place on August 27 at Atokad Downs racetrack. The project carries a $100m investment.
The property will house 600 slot machines, 16 table games, live and simulcast racing, and a 100-room hotel. Nebraska Ale Haus will open on-site with a second-floor patio bar, conference space and an outdoor concert venue.
Lance Morgan, president and CEO of Ho-Chunk, said South Sioux City had been in the company's plans from the start. He pointed to the economic impact WarHorse has already generated in Lincoln and Omaha. Morgan added that the goal is to change perceptions of the city — guests will be able to come for racing, concerts or a weekend stay.
Construction will proceed in two phases, allowing the property to open while the full casino, hotel and entertainment complex is completed.
