Tabcorp sees huge profit growth on marginal revenue growth due to strong cost control

Tabcorp closed its 2026 financial year with revenue of $2,636.3m, up 0.8%, and net profit after tax up 43.6%. The Australian bookmaker put the profit growth down to cost control and the first phase of its new retail commercial model.

Operating expenses rose 0.5% to $700.7m on inflation, though underlying costs fell 0.8% once the Victorian licence reform is stripped out. Domestic wagering revenue added 0.9% on better trading conditions, with margin in the first half below average. International revenue slipped 3.7% as Hong Kong ran weak in the second half. EBITDA rose 10.3% to $431.7m, and the EBITDA margin reached 16.4%, up 140 basis points.

CEO Gillon McLachlan said the company is halfway through its transformation. The retail model is live, National Tote is being prepared for launch, and TAB LIVE terminals are going into pubs and clubs across approved states. Tabcorp intends to buy BetMakers, a deal it expects to speed up product rollout and open global opportunities for international revenue.

The operator is working with AUSTRAC on its financial monitoring investigation and continues to tighten its anti-money laundering procedures.
