Asia Gaming eBrief: Gambling ad bill threatens Philippine player acquisition

Licensed operators in the Philippines risk losing most of their public marketing channels. A Senate bill would bar gambling promotion and sponsorship on television, in print, outdoors, and across websites, apps and social platforms. Breaches carry fines and prison terms, with licences on the line.

For online operators and affiliate programmes that is a direct hit to player acquisition. If the bill passes, paid search, targeted media and SEO presence all come into question, and arbitrage teams on Philippine GEO would have to rebuild their funnels and traffic sources.

In Macau, Galaxy said live events lift weekend footfall at Galaxy Macau by 30-40%. The company ran 74 events through July, pulling in more than 560,000 people. Events as a footfall driver are working.

New Zealand's SkyCity reported a 22% drop in EBITDA for FY26 on lower gaming revenue. Malaysia's RGB International named Kelvin Tan as a director. Macau police arrested a man over proxy betting on live-streamed slots.

The regional picture runs in two directions: some markets tighten the rules, others lean on live formats and events to hold their audiences.
