Gambling Commission publishes data showing that British gambling yield went up 4.4 per cent to £17.5bn

The Gambling Commission published its annual industry statistics for the financial year April 2025 to March 2026. Total GGY across the British market reached £17.5bn, up 4.4% on the previous year.

GGY excluding lotteries came to £13.2bn, a 4.7% increase. The online segment — remote casino, betting and bingo — generated £8.3bn, growing 6.9%. Land-based operations, including casinos, betting shops, bingo halls and gaming arcades, brought in £4.9bn, up just 1.1%.

The number of licensed land-based premises in Britain fell 2% to 8,081. Betting shops dropped 3.6% to 5,617 outlets. The contraction continues as online tax rises and players move digital.

Ben Haden, director of research at the Gambling Commission, said the market changes are driven by multiple factors and require analysis from different angles. The regulator released the data alongside the Gambling Survey for Great Britain to help the industry understand demand and player behaviour.

Online is growing almost seven times faster than land-based. For operators and affiliates, the numbers back a digital focus, but the land-based sector still delivers £5bn and holds.
