Kangwon Land's new CEO Kim has set out plans to accelerate the transformation of the High1 resort under the $2.21 billion K-HIT programme. He formally took office on 2 September, the company announced.
The plan calls for integrating the High1 resort in Jeongseon with surrounding forests, former mining towns and other regional attractions into a unified tourism belt. Kim urged regulatory reforms to support Kangwon Land's transition into a global integrated resort in the public sector.
The K-HIT programme runs through 2035. It includes expanded gaming and hotel capacity, new entertainment facilities and a stronger focus on non-gaming revenue. Kim also pledged to strengthen the AI-based gambling addiction prevention system and build a responsible tourism model.
Kim was appointed at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on 26 August. He became Kangwon Land's eleventh CEO, replacing a succession of acting heads after the state-controlled operator was left without permanent leadership.
Kangwon Land operates the only casino in South Korea that admits local residents.
